Hello and welcome to Mae!
A little introduction and what to expect (or what not to expect...)
My name is Akemi and it’s a pleasure to meet all of you! I’ve never considered myself much of a writer and I always seemed to have trouble getting through the readings in my AP English and literature classes (I always preferred to get my hands dirty) so forgive me for any incoherencies… Anyway, I don’t want to bore you with the things that can already be found in the ‘About’ section so let’s dive right into the things that you’re all here for.
I’m a cook first and foremost and a life-poster second but I’ve been posting my creations (lunch) and sometimes processes for a few years now. For those of you, and by that I mean most of you, who discovered me through twitter, you may have already seen the daily to weekly food posts, silly ramblings, and occasional viral (and hilarious) joke or clapback.

Although I spent most of my time never really elaborating on the pictures or self-deprecating jokes, I hope that this can be a space where I’m a bit more open about the thoughts I have without much of a filter. Because let’s be real, a quiet life is a happy life but who in their right mind would want to share personal information with the absolute freaks of nature twitter has become infested with following its latest change in ownership. But that’s a rant for another time.
So what can you expect?
Simple (hopefully), but delicious recipes that are meant to be replicated at home
Price breakdowns of ingredients local to me (Los Angeles)
Explanations on how I utilize ingredients and pantry staples in a way that let’s me make the most of my food
Farmer’s market and grocery store finds and adventures
Anything that I am passionate about
My hope is that we learn together and share together that food at home can be affordable, delicious, and not feel like a chore. I know life is tiring, but food doesn’t also have to be.
